I’ve looked various videos and artworks that are somewhat similar to what I want to do.

MethodStudios (2016) Major Lazer – light it up (feat. Nyla & fuse ODG). Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2LpOUwca94 (Accessed: 28 February 2017).
WalkTheMoonVEVO (2014) WALK THE MOON – shut up and dance. Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JCLY0Rlx6Q (Accessed: 28 February 2017).

In both these videos, they have a human figure than has an animated pattern on top. this pattern follows the natural curves and contours of the body. These videos also gave me ideas on what colours to use, and ideas for abstract shapes. The aim of my animated texture surface is to change the appearance of the human’s body so that the user will focus on the animation.

HOW-TO

To make the motion capture video from the Major Lazer music video ( the video above). MethodStudios used both Cinema4D and Houdini. Both softwares I do not have.

Therefore I was not sure how to create an animated texture on a 3D model using the software that is available to me. Such as Maya, After Effects etc.

I went to talk to Matt and it turns out that I have to import the animated video (the video wth will be on the model body) as a sequence of images. The video below explains more.

Drum, M. (2017) How to use an image sequence (video) as a texture in maya. Available at: https://vimeo.com/86580456 (Accessed: 28 February 2017).

This tutorial is exactly what I was looking for. The challenge  now is to figure out how to plan the area,in so that it shows on the right parts of her body. This will have to do with the UV mapping.

To-Do

  1. Draft or Prototype for class next week
  2. Create mood boards for ways to show emotions through colours, shapes, lines, sounds etc
  3. Artist research – artists who suffered from creative blocks (past and present) and artists who use similar processes and techniques I intend to use for this project
  4. Storyboard animation
