I am looking at artists who have used similar techniques that I intend on using in my project.

Such as

  • Camera angles
  • Lighting
  • Composition
  • Sound effects
ISARTDIGITAL (2014) HUNGRY ZOMBIE (2014). Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfB1KTBRHRc (Accessed: 5 May 2016).

The image on the left is from a 3D animation called ‘Hungry Zombie‘ made by a Youtube channel called ISARTDIGITAL.

In terms of camera angles, lighting and composition, this video influenced the visual aspect of my video.

I liked this video because the lighting and the composition were a great example of how to represent a zombie in a movie.

The composition of this video complements the lighting very well. The zombie is filling the frame and the lighting is making the shadows on face bring out his facial features more. The combination of a low camera angle and a close up shot, makes the viewer feel like the zombie is standing over them. This gives the viewer a realistic feel as if they were in the animation. This technique makes the viewer feel uncomfortable but in a good way because it goes well with the storyline.

Another zombie related animation I looked at was called ‘Isolated‘ a short film by a Youtube channel called TheSunnyShate

In terms of sound effects this video heavily influenced the way I thought about sound effects.

It never occurred to me that there may need to be some sort of audio before the zombies and the humans start to dance to music. Adding sound effects to my narrative will help make the story clearer to the viewer.

In the video the main character is running through an abandoned restaurant kitchen, in the background violin screeches are playing. This reminded me of the violin screeched in Hitchcocks’ Psycho movie (1960) (video above, on the right).

The combination of breathing, running and violin sound really complemented the mood of the animation which was fear. Although the overall emotion of my video isn’t fear there is a slight moment when I want the audience to be shocked. This moment is when the lights come back on and the zombies are in the animation.

For my video, I want each of the zombies faces to fill the frame while the violin screech song is playing in the background. This will make the animation look scary as well as help change the dynamic of the storyline.

The viewers will never think that these scary zombies would start to dance with the humans! PLOT TWIST!
