Chosen Idea

I was talking to my tutor about my ideas for my FMP and I realised that the superhero idea doesn’t really have a valid meaning behind it apart from “I want to make a short film about superheroes!”

Whereas the eulogy idea is something everyone can relate to because, everyone experiences love, sadness, joy and at some point in life, they will experience grief due to the death of a loved one.

For my GSCE essay, I wrote a story about a friend giving a eulogy at her friends funeral/wake. I thought this would be really interesting to turn that into an animation.

My only concern about this idea was that I didn’t want to make it too sad, I didn’t want the audience to be sad but for them to treasure their loved one while they are still here.

Production (So Far)

Originally, I wanted to make my own characters using Maya, but after having a talk with my teacher I decided to use models from Daz3D and edit them to how I wanted them to look like. E.G. using photoshop to darken the skin texture map so that when opened in Maya the model will have a darker skin complexion.

To show her reflecting on memories I wanted:

Firstly, the past and the present day to have different colour tones. E.G. the past is bright and colourful and the present day is dull and dark. This is to show emotion visually. I want the narrative to show clear thought the narrative so that if someone is watching without the audio they will still know what is going on.

Secondly, the memories are to be shown in freeze frame effect, similar to the title sequence of DeadPool. This is to show how memories are stuck in time. It also gives me the chance to practice my facial and body modelling more since the expressions have to be correct for each memory.

To Do

– Research eulogies and funeral films/scenes such as, What dreams may come, 4 Weddings and a funeral, The bucket list and Going out in style

– Ask people about best memories they have with their friend

– Finalise Script and Storyboard

– Finalise Characters

– Research facial animation in Maya

– Reseach funeral/wake environment for modelling
