NAME: Omolola (Lola) Oyeyemi
TITLE OF ARTWORK: ‘Mission to Mars with Mae Jemison’
Space is such a vast topic, so Lola decided to focus on a specific aspect of space travel. She was greatly motivated by the work of a black female astronaut and used her story to inspire and educate a younger audience. Lola designed a cartoon illustration to represent Mae Jemison and her dream of going to Mars was portrayed in a unique way.
Lola used the idea of storytelling to create a fantastic and colourful imagery in an effective way, aimed to grab the target audience. The visual theme used worked well with the bursts of fun facts and information.
Lola animated the cartoon using the puppet tool in After Effects; this gave the cartoon a realistic movement. She also used various filter settings and brushes in Photoshop to create the scenic images of space.
Mae Jemison is an influential role model who motivates and inspires everyone that they can achieve anything regardless of their gender or skin colour
