To visually show the audience the vibration the man is hearing we intend on making an abstract wave that can represent sound waves. After looking at youtube tutorials on how to make waveforms in After Effects, I found these two videos, below, very helpful.

Although both these video use a plug-in called ‘Trapcode’.

Since I can’t buy the plug-in because it is expensive, I was able to come up with alternatives to this effect.

For the video above I tried to make a similar effect but the artist used the Trapcode plugin, so I used an inbuilt effect in After effects called ‘Particle World’ which gave the effect of floating in space. I thought this was a good effect because it going well with the story.

This could represent the moment just before he learns to use his sense of hearing.

The video below is the video I made.

From this video I learn how to use the audio spectrum effect in After Effects. This effect enables the soundwaves to react to the audio. I kept the visuals very colourful because that’s the emotion I wanted the video to have. I didn’t want the video to have a black/white effect because that can represent sadness and we are trying to make the ending of the video happy.

I combined the two videos together. The videos compliment each other because they represent the story that we are trying to tell. In the beginning, it is black then particles of colour come in which changes to a visual sound wave.

This compliments the emotion we are trying to evoke. The man is sad because he has lost his vision but he can still see the world as colorful as he could when he wasn’t blind. The emotions we are trying to evoke are hope and happiness and I believe this abstract video does that.

For the final video, the audio spectrum will be with traffic sounds, people talking etc. Not music, this was merely a test.
