Whilst creating the demo VR environment for my project I realised that is wasn’t going to work. If I carried on doing it this way, I would have had to create the same layout to represent the different weeks. This would be too labour intensive and the artwork would look boring. Therefore I decided to change the layout of the design, again.
I also changed what type of information I will be presenting meaning before I chose the 3 most important categories on the music chart.
- This week’s position
- Last week’s position
- and how many weeks the song has been on the charts.
This wasn’t going to be effective because it didn’t show the relationship the songs have with Twitter.
The main focus of the data visualisation is the change in the music chart. I want to display this through an animated line graph that plays the number 1 song. Similar to the Polygraph artwork. This is a better way to show the change than in 3D shapes because the user will visually see and hear the change over the weeks.
To show the relationship between Twitter and the music charts I intend to show tweets from around the world related to the number one song. This is to show the user how tweets have an impact on the music charts.
Lastly, on the right, the user will see how long the song has been on the charts for.
This layout/idea is better than the original because it shows the rapidly evolving data and the relation it has with Twitter.
