I want the audience to feel like they are in control, similar to how the interactive game ‘Episode’ makes their players feel. To do this, I’m giving the audience two choices that will help develop the narrative. The choices in ‘Episode’ are mostly happy and don’t have a negative effect on the story.

Unlike ‘Episode’ the choices I give the audince will have diffrent motives, For exmaple:

Choice 1 – will act as a shoulder angel, to help lead the main character, Matthew down the path of righteousness.

Choice 2 – will counteract choice 1, by acting as a shoulder devil. This choice is to keep Matthew emotionless and distant.

The videos below are examples of how shoulder angels and devils act

This video takes on a comical approach to the shoulder angel and devil concept.

I like it! I intended to adding a bit of humour to the choices, this will help keep the audience engaged to know what would happen next as well as to know if there would be any more comical choices.

Gregory SmokeFreeVeteran (2011) Donald Duck tries smoking. Available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WEJlHJZBGo (Accessed: 24 May 2016).

In this video, Donald Duck is following his shoulder angel, then the devil comes and distracts him. I think it would be interesting  to somewhat ‘distract’ the audience during the story. There could be moments in the narrative where I test the audience to see if they will truly stay on the right path, which is following what the shoulder angel says and not the devil.

The intention of this is to teach the audience what Matthew is learning in the story. Which is you don’t have to do everything by yourself, you need your friends/family to help you and that is ok. By the end of the story I can’t the audience to feel like they have truly he;ped Matthew reconnect with his loved ones while learning something for themselves.
