From my assignment 1 feedback, I got this regarding the colour scheme,

“It’s not that clear how the art style and visual influences are being brought in: I think using Fauvist is a very nice approach; although how this will mix/contrast/harmonise with a pop-art approach needs development (if you stick to both).”

I totally understand where this is coming from and since then I have clarified how I intend to draw inspiration from both art movements, Pop Art and Fauvism.

AESTHETIC & COLOUR SCHEME

For the aesthetic of the video game, meaning its style will be a low poly game. This is related to minimal detail and simple shapes used in Pop Art. For the colour scheme, Fauvism will be used for the inspiration. My main concern was the vividness of the colours, the solution is to use gradients. Although I don’t want the gradients to be one colour. For example using the colour green but with 2 different shades.

FAUVISM

The characteristics of this art movements were solid planes of colour and vivid colours. Many artists how painted during this art movements paint landscapes. This helped me very much because I was able to see how they applied the bold colour scheme to the scenery without making it overpowering.

From the images above I noticed that the colour scheme consisted of complimentary colours, such as yellow and blue. Both vibrant colours but when put together they aren’t overpowering.

ARTIST RESEARCH

I remember this music video used colour very well making it appealing to watch. Both Favism and this music video implicated a good use of colour saturation. This music video helped me envision how complimentary or contrasting colours would look when put together in a gradient.

For the prototype, I wanted to make the environment have an animated skybox and for the colours to fading into one another. Like and animated gradient. The tempo of the animation needs to be slow so that it doesn’t distract the player.

TO DO

  1. Finish Lydon Kingdom terrain
  2. Research how to make an animated skybox – then implement
  3. Research how to make a first-person shooter – then implement
